Denver’s Zikr Dance Ensemble returns to the Pagosa Springs Arts Center on Saturday, September 26 at 7pm.
Zikr is Denver dance luminary David Taylor’s latest venture and one of the most exciting new dance companies in Colorado and the nation. Using the finest ballet-trained dancers from Colorado’s front range, Zikr transports its audiences through time and space to preserve and present a spectrum of works that are based upon, or living replicas of, transcendent dance rituals from many different ancient world cultures throughout history.
Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door and may be reserved through the Arts Center Box Office at 970-731-7469 or online at www.pagosacenter.org.
The dances in performance are supplemented by stunning slide projections, enveloping the audiences in an experience that transcends time and place bringing everyone to a place of awe, inspiration and appreciation.
In just six short years, Zikr has established itself locally, regionally and nationally as a leading dance company that is not to be missed. Carissa Chen with 303 Magazine described the experience as, “a spiritual journey leaving you rejuvenated, intrigued, mind blown and, of course, beyond impressed.”
The Zikr Dance Ensemble’s 2015 season performance program is entitled “Invocation.” The program will feature two of Artistic Director David Taylor’s latest creations, “The Lady of the Lake,” a lush contemporary ballet based on Arthurian legends and Christian mysticism, and “Sadhu,” a stunning new contemporary work to the music of Philip Glass and based on the holy men of India and Tibet.
Another premiere will be the “Four Prophets.” an historical sacred dance work by legendary sacred movement creator G.I. Gurdjieff, and five other pieces.
