Fire is here to stay. It’s part of lives in the West. But when was the last time you heard a hopeful story about it? In partnership with San Juan Headwaters Forest Health Partnership, Christi Bode Skeie, environmental filmmaker and owner of Moxiecran Media, is premiering her new film, Plumtaw: A Future with Fire, which explores that very question, discussing what led to the fortuitous outcome of the Plumtaw Fire and how the Pagosa community can better prepare for future events.
There are many things outside of our control — especially with a changing climate — but the film explores the aspects that we can control, namely preparedness. The premiere will be held at the Pagosa Center for the Arts in Pagosa Springs on Wednesday, May 17, which marks the one year anniversary of the fire. May is also National Wildfire Awareness Month. Following the film, there will be a panel of local experts and residents who will discuss the role of fire on the landscape and in our lives. The event runs from 6pm-7:30pm. There is a $5 suggested cash donation.
We encourage you to participate in this community event. All are welcome.
