The Thingamajig Theater Company, in residence at the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts, has just sunk its foundations deeper into the community. Already recognized locally and nationally for its highly professional stage productions, children’s theater programs and free concerts, the Theater is in the process of completing its own house to accommodate its actors and staff.
Faced with a shrinking and increasingly pricey rental housing market, the Theater needed to find a way to meet its obligation to house its artists who come from all over the country. Rather than lament and try and muddle through the problem, the founders of the Theater, Laura and Tim Moore, decided on the bold step of building their own accommodation.
Teaming up with long-time supporter and builder Tim Brown, the process was set in motion. As the house is nearing completion, volunteers from Friends of the Theater have been helping out with some of the final touches. This has included manufacturing the unique house fixtures, setting up a registry for household items, preparing linens and bedding and completing the landscaping.
According to Laura Moore, the Theatre’s Executive Director, “We are committed to the long term growth of theater and the arts in this area. We have been overwhelmed by the incredible support we have had from the Pagosa Springs community and visitors.”
About the Actors House project, she added, “This represents a very significant financial obligation for us, but we feel it was a way to repay our appreciation for the confidence and the support that this community has shown us and to securing our future here.”
